It’s quiz night tonight, as it is on the first Tuesday of every month. Come to Hurley’s at 8pm to have your knowledge of useless trivia challenged and heckle the virgin quizmasters.

Toasties and Quizzies

Last night after work I headed over to El Diablo Rojo, a tapas bar on Peel for a very pleasant evening with my fellow Toastmasters. There was free beer and free food and good company, what else could I ask for? The food didn’t seem very tapas-like but it was still good. Who knew beef and bananas would be a good combination? The beer was the non-spanish quebecois favourite Maudite and was stronger than I realized. The company had me discussing gaming, the UK, domain names, Facebook and craigslist and made me totally lose track of time until Jen called at 8:05 to ask why I wasn’t at quiz yet.

I dashed over to Hurley’s to arrive midway through round one of the quiz to join Jen and our other teammates, Marie-Jo and her Scottish beau Jonathan. We didn’t win the quiz but we had fun trying, and everyone now knows I want to have John Cusack’s babies.

It’s the first Tuesday of the month, which means it’s Quiz Night at Hurley’s Irish Pub.

Every month we have someone different hosting the quiz, and tonight that someone is me! I have eight categories of challenging trivia for you to enjoy with your beer and bar snacks.

Here’s a sneak peek at my categories:

S is for Science
M is for Music
G is for Geography
F is for Film
H is for History (I can hear the groans already)
L is for Literature
T is for TV
The Mystery Category

I will also be setting a challenge at the start of the quiz, to be completed by the end of the quiz.

So come join us tonight at 8pm, upstairs at Hurley’s on Crescent below St Catherine. Don’t worry if you don’t have a team, we can always find a team for you to join.

Bloggers’ quiz

Last night was quiz night at Hurley’s Irish Pub. The quiz was tough, but that’s ok because the room was full of Montreal bloggers, and we all know how smart Montreal bloggers are.

We were in the lead up to the last couple of rounds, before getting wiped out by some impossible song lyrics and tricky “famous animals” questions. Congrats to the Scotsman and his new bride and their glamorous assistants, JonasParker and the inimitable Art.

Quiz night = Fun night

Last night was quiz night at Hurley’s. Good beer (St Ambroise oatmeal stout), good food (nachos, lots and lots of nachos), good company (we teamed up with him and her and chatted with Tyler and Cara and Kim and Walter and Karen and Dusty our fabulous waitress) and a most excellent set of trivia provided by Tyler, including the little known fact that Bruce Springsteen has “dubious vocal quality”.

If you haven’t given quiz night a go yet, I heartily recommend it. First Tuesday of (nearly) every month.

Despite oppressive heat (even in a pub with air conditioning), we managed to win the pubquiz last night. It was a great quiz, with just two small pieces of controversy, which we shall settle now:

We won the quiz! We even beat him.

Go us. Go Cara and Tyler for putting on a fantabulous quiz. Go her for bringing candy. Go Dusty for being Uber-Waitress.

Jen and her Mum had a big argument about whether a piano is considered percussion or string. Here’s the answer I found:

In spite of the fact that the average piano has about 230 strings, it is considered a percussion instrument. Symphony orchestra’s [sic] consider it part of the percussion section.

Whether it makes sense or not is a whole other argument.

Yes it’s that time again. The first Tuesday of the month means it’s quiz night!

When: 8pm Sharp-ish

Where: Hurley’s Irish Pub, upstairs party room, on Crescent below St Catherine.

Who: Hosted this month by chef extraordinaire Cara and her sexy dancing assistant Tyler.

How: Come with a team or just turn up and join a team that needs people. Maximum of 4 people per team.

What else: The winners will receive beautifully crafted Hurley’s gift certificates which they may frame for posterity or just spend.

It’s fun, and it’s for charady!

The annual McGill Centraide campaign is now well underway. As part of that, our friend, the Book Goddess, has organised the fourth Centraide Trivia Quiz. Teams of 2-4 people are invited to challenge the current champions, a team from the Department of Development and Alumni, who claim to be unbeatable!

Here are the all important details:

When: Wednesday November 9th at 6pm
Where: New Residence Ballroom, 3625 Avenue Du Parc
How much: $5 per person

There will of course be great prizes for the top teams, and all proceeds go to the campaign.

Marching and Quizzing

The annual Centraide campaign started today with the March of 1000 Umbrellas. It looked very impressive, I really should carry my camera everywhere.

In other news, it’s the first Tuesday of the month, and that means it’s quiz night at Hurley’s Irish Pub (upstairs), on Crescent Street between St Catherine and Rene Levesque. Be there at 8pm to tax your brains and drink beer.
